ATTENDANCE & ONLINE PARTICIPATION
On-Campus Courses
The ABU on-campus academic program is designed for in-class learning experiences and relationships between students as well as between professors and students. A student must attend at least 75% of class time. When the student has exceeded the allowable absences, the student will be administratively withdrawn from the course, and the records will indicate WP (Withdrawn Passing) or WF (Withdrawn Failing). If a student is absent for the first two class periods of any course, including during the add/drop period, the student will be administratively withdrawn from the course, and the records will indicate WP (Withdrawn Passing).
Hybrid Courses
Hybrid courses meet on campus once each week and include an online component for the completion of course requirements. The on-campus element of the course is designed for in-class learning experiences and relationships between students as well as between professors and students. A student must attend at least 75% of class time and complete the online course requirements.
Online Courses
Participation is the first step toward the engagement necessary for online course success. Course participation is defined as active engagement through the submission of completed assignments. Logging into the LMS or communicating with the professor does not constitute course participation. Online students are expected to engage with course materials within three days of the start of the semester. If a student does not submit coursework or assignments during the first week of an online course, the student will be administratively withdrawn from the course, and the records will indicate WP (Withdrawn Passing). If at any point during the term beyond the first week, the student is inactive for two weeks, the student will be administratively withdrawn from the course, and the records will indicate WP (Withdrawn Passing) or WF (Withdrawn Failing).
Medical and Other Personal Crisis Absences
In the event of a positive test result for a communicable illness such as COVID-19, or if a student experiences a medical or personal crisis that will prevent the student from class attendance, the following instructions must be followed to receive accommodations:
Within 24 hours of being diagnosed, students must
• Electronically submit medical documentation to the registrar’s office and
• Coordinate with each professor to adjust assignment due dates.
All accommodation requests are reviewed for approval or denial by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Office of Academic Affairs communicates such information to students and relevant faculty.
